What is Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and how does it affect Nick Cannon?

Nick Cannon shared his Narcissistic Personality Disorder diagnosis with People earlier this month. He didn’t go into much detail about how it affects him, stating:

“I feel like there’s so many labels out there, but it’s like, to be able to embrace it and say, ‘Look, I’m healing. I need help. Show me.’ I just embrace mental health and therapy in such a strong way. To be able to say I’m an example for others, but also be healing during the self-process works too.”

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) (and Mayo Clinic) states an individual must possess at least five of the nine symptoms listed below to meet the criteria for an NPD diagnosis:

• Are jealous of others or believe that others envy them.
• Believes they are “special” and should only associate with others who are “special.”
• Displays arrogant and haughty attitudes and behavior.
• Exploits others to achieve their own needs.
• Grandiose sense of self-importance.
• Has a sense of entitlement.
• Lacks empathy.
• Obsesses over fantasies of unlimited power, success, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love.
• Requires excessive admiration.

While many “healthy” people can display the above traits, the DSM-5 indicates, “Only when these traits are inflexible, maladaptive, and persisting, and cause significant functional impairment or subjective distress, do they constitute narcissistic personality disorder.”

The cause of NPD hasn’t been discovered yet, but there’s evidence that it might be genetic rather than environmental. Neuroscientists have found that those with NPD have less gray matter in the prefrontal cortex, which is associated with compassion, empathy, and emotional regulation.

The primary treatment for NPD is therapy. However, there is no clear evidence that therapy effectively alleviates the symptoms of the disorder. Doctors may also prescribe antidepressants, mood stabilizers, and anti-psychotics to patients to reduce the severity of symptoms.

Ahead of Severance Season 2’s premiere on January 17, it has been announced that executive producers Ben Stiller and Adam Scott will be hosting a companion Severance podcast. Besides Stiller and Scott, they will also be accompanied by several guests, including some of the cast and crew, as well as celebrity fans of the show, such as Jon Stewart.

When is the Severance podcast release date?

The Severance podcast is scheduled to launch its first two episodes on January 7, which will feature the hosts tackling the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi drama series. While waiting for the Season 2 premiere, the following Season 1 episodes will be released daily on weekdays through January 16. Afterward, new episodes will be released weekly on Fridays throughout the second season of Severance.

“We have severed ourselves from the world for five years making this show. Speaking to GamesRadar+ and TotalFilm, Pierre praised Jones as a hero of his, and said that he was one of Pierre’s greatest inspirations while growing up as an actor.

“James Earl Jones is a hero of mine, and a hero of many,” Pierre said. “”He was one of my greatest inspirations, from his stage work to his extensive filmography, to his voice work. He’s timeless. We celebrate him. We champion him. And he’ll be greatly missed.”

Rumors of a Tom Cruise scary movie project have turned out to be true, as director Doug Liman recently confirmed that he and Cruise are working on a horror project, the first in the genre for either.

During a screening of the documentary Gaucho Gaucho last week, Liman spoke to Showbiz 411, where he confirmed that he and Cruise are planning to make a “scary” movie together. He didn’t expand much upon the project, but noted that it would be both he and Cruise’s first time tackling this kind of movie.

“I have never done one,” said Liman. “And neither has Tom Cruise.”

Rumors of a Tom Cruise-led scary movie have been floating around for nearly the entire year. In August, movie insider Daniel Richtman mentioned that the pair were in talks to make the film, with Warner Bros. Discovery producing the project. At the time of the report, the project was known as Deeper, although it’s unknown if the name will stick.

Deeper has been around for nearly a full decade, and was initially a script written by Max Landis. Multiple stars have been attached to the project since, including Idris Elba, Bradley Cooper, and Gal Gadot. In 2024’s Twisters, Anthony Ramos plays Javi, a character that many thought was secretly smitten by Daisy Edgar-Jones’ Kate. Now, Ramos has opened up about his take on the film, as well as its now infamous lack of a kiss at the end.

Speaking to ComingSoon in a recent interview, Ramos was asked about the theory that fans quickly came up with that his character Javi had a crush on Kate. In the movie, it’s never explicitly mentioned, but fans were quick to pick up on Javi’s interactions, and according to Ramos, he definitely thought there was something there.

“Oh, sure, for sure, a hundred percent,” said Ramos. “Yeah. He has that line. He is like, ‘There was a time where I’d do anything for you, Kate,’ and I look at her with them eyes like, ‘Yo, you know I would’ve done anything for you, but you never picked me.’ That kind of thing. Yeah, he is salty a little bit, but then he gets over it.”

Despite Javi being “salty” at the start, Ramos joked that both he and Javi would’ve liked to have seen a kiss between Edgar-Jones’ Kate and Glen Powell’s Tyler, a moment that fans lamented never occurred despite the pair ending the movie having feelings for one another.

“Well, you know what? On the contrary, at the end of the movie, I’m like, ‘Bro, go get it.’ Like, ‘What are you doing?’ I think it would’ve been better if he would’ve kissed since it would’ve put Javi out of his misery. Now that they didn’t kiss, it’s open-ended. Now he might still have hope and think that he could probably get her. Gladiator II cinematographer and longtime Ridley Scott collaborator John Mathieson had some strong words for the legendary director, saying that he’s changed for the worse in how he makes movies.

During a recent appearance on the DocFix podcast (via World of Reel), Mathieson — who has worked with Scott as a cinematographer on Gladiator, Hannibal, Kingdom of Heaven, Robin Hood, and the most recent Gladiator II — said that the way Scott makes movies now is “really lazy.”

“It’s really lazy,” Mathieson said. “It’s the CG [computer graphic] elements now of tidying-up, leaving things in shot, cameras in shot, microphones in shot, bits of set hanging down, shadows from booms. And they just said [on Gladiator II], ‘Well, clean it up.’

Mathieson went on to say that Scott’s impatience often results in him trying to “get as much as he can at once,” and that the use of so many cameras at once doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting a better product.

“He is quite impatient so he likes to get as much as he can at once,” said Mathieson. “It’s not very good for cinematography…Look at his older films and getting depth into things was very much part of lighting. You can’t do that with a lot of cameras but he just wants to get it all done.

“Having lots of cameras I don’t think has made the films any better…It’s a bit rush, rush, rush. That’s changed in him. But that’s the way he wants to do it and I don’t like it and I don’t think many people do, but people love his films and he’s Ridley Scott and can do what he wants.”

It’s unclear whether or not Mathieson and Scott will be working together in the future, but it seems clear that they clash in terms of how they prefer to make movies now. As for Scott, he’s got several movies in development now, including another project with Gladiator II star Paul Mescal.

Dwayne Johnson has opened up about the body suit he’ll be wearing in the upcoming Moana live-action movie, detailing just how long it took him to get into the suit that turned him into Maui.

Set photos of Johnson dressed as Maui have already surfaced, with Johnson seen in the large suit that’s adorned with all of Maui’s tattoos. Speaking to Extra in a recent interview, Johnson initially joked that it was nice people couldn’t tell him apart when they first put the suit on.

“That’s a suit that took a long time to put on,” Johnson said. “So, I’m so happy you said, ‘You bulked up,’ because when you say, ‘You bulked up,’ that means you couldn’t tell.”

Johnson went on to say that the process of putting on the costume took “a couple of hours day every of transforming, putting that thing on,” and that the team behind the film initially tried to stop anyone from seeing him, but it eventually became inevitable.

“We shot outside and when those pictures surfaced, I was like, ‘S–t, we got caught,’ cause we were putting up, like, walls so there was no paparazzi,” the actor added of the photos getting leaked. “But they got into boats and started shooting pictures.”

Alongside Johnson, the upcoming live-action Moana film will star Catherine Laga’aia in the titular role, John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina, and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala. The rest of the cast has yet to be finalized.

The script for the new Moana movie is written by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. Kail is making his narrative feature directorial debut with the film, which additionally stars Frankie Adams as Sina and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.

In a shock, Matt Eberflus has been fired on Friday morning as the head coach of the Chicago Bears. This marks the first time the team has let go of its head coach mid-season. Many Bears fans who watched the team’s Thanksgiving match against the Lions were dumbfounded by the last minute of the game and understand why he was sacked the following day on November 29. Here’s why Eberflus was fired in the 2024 NFL season and replaced by Thomas Brown as interim head coach.

Why was Matt Eberflus fired as the Bears’ head coach?

Eberflus was fired after poor clock mismanagement in the match against the Lions, where the Bears let about 30 seconds pass at the end of the game despite having a timeout in hand and not giving themselves extra yards for a possible game-tying field goal attempt.

It also didn’t help that this loss against the Lions extended the coach’s losing streak to six straight games, many of which ended in embarrassment for the Bears. This includes a Hail Mary pass made by the Commanders in Week 8 for a Bears loss, a blocked field goal that led the Packers to win in Week 11, and an overtime loss to the Vikings in Week 12. The Bears general manager, Ryan Poles, said in a statement on Friday that chairman George McCaskey and president Kevin Warren had decided to “move in a different direction with the leadership of our football team and the head-coaching position.” This decision came just a few hours after Eberflus held a press conference saying he would still be leading the Bears moving forward.

Stepping in as interim head coach will be Thomas Brown, who was elevated to offensive coordinator when Eberflus fired Shane Waldron in Week 11. Brown played professionally in the NFL for the Falcons and Browns, and was the assistant coach for the Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Rams, and numerous college teams.
