Ahead of Severance Season 2’s premiere on January 17, it has been announced that executive producers Ben Stiller and Adam Scott will be hosting a companion Severance podcast. Besides Stiller and Scott, they will also be accompanied by several guests, including some of the cast and crew, as well as celebrity fans of the show, such as Jon Stewart.

When is the Severance podcast release date?

The Severance podcast is scheduled to launch its first two episodes on January 7, which will feature the hosts tackling the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi drama series. While waiting for the Season 2 premiere, the following Season 1 episodes will be released daily on weekdays through January 16. Afterward, new episodes will be released weekly on Fridays throughout the second season of Severance.

“We have severed ourselves from the world for five years making this show. While we have no memory of what happened during that time, we thought we should do a podcast for all the Innies who will have no recollection of watching in an attempt to reintegrate them with their memory of the show,” Stiller and Scott said in a joint statement (via Variety). “We’re happy not to be working with Lumon Industries on this podcast and instead to be bringing it to the world with Audacy Podcasts, who would never send us to the break room.”

The Apple TV+ series was created and written by Dan Erickson, who’s also serving as an executive producer along with director Ben Stiller. In addition to Scott, Season 2 will also feature returning cast members Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, Emmy Award winner John Turturro, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette. “They’ve done his deal, they’ve done Lisa [Kudrow] and my deals as executive producers,” Sorvino said (via People). “[Original screenwriter Robin Schiff] has written multiple drafts of an amazing funny script, which checks all the boxes for all the fans.”

“And they’re just going back and forth, tweaking things here and there, and [there are] rumors of shooting it second quarter next year,” she continued. “But, it’s not officially greenlit, so I can’t say that it’s officially greenlit.”

In addition, Sorvino revealed that she and Kudrow aren’t the only ones who are expected to return for the sequel, as they’re currently working on getting the original’s whole main cast back together.

“Almost every single character from the original that was important is coming back,” she said. “”This is all pending, them making deals, them saying yes, but they’re all in there.”

20th Century Studios has successfully landed the rights to the upcoming time travel movie The Barrier, which hails from All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger. The studio won the project in an intense bidding war against multiple competitors for a reported seven figure range deal.

Who is involved in The Barrier?

The Barrier will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Edward Berger from a screenplay written by up-and-coming scribe MacMillan Hedges, based on the latter’s short story. Further details about its plot and characters are still being kept under wraps. However, it is being described as a Interstellar meets Top Gun. The movie will be led by Oscar nominee Austin Butler, who most recently starred in Warner Bros.’ sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two and Focus Features’ crime drama The Bikeriders. Prey breakout Amber Midthunder has officially been tapped to join the Brave cast for the upcoming comedy drama movie. Production is expected to begin around next summer on the Choctaw Nation Reservation in Oklahoma.

Following her breakout performance in the Predator prequel, Midthunder was last seen in the Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series, where she played the recurring role of Princess Yue. She will next be seen in the action thriller Novocaine with Jack Quaid and in the horror movie Opus with Ayo Edebiri.

Besides Midthunder, Native American actors Dallas Goldtooth (Reservation Dogs, Echo), Wes Studi (The Last of the Mohicans), and Graham Greene (Dances With Wolves) have also been cast in the upcoming project. Golden Globe winner John Lithgow opened up about his most recent role in Focus Features‘ latest thriller drama Conclave. Since making its theatrical debut last month, the Ralph Fiennes-led movie has received a Certified Fresh rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 232 reviews.

John Lithgow on what’s fascinating about the Conclave movie

In Conclave, Lithgow played the role of Joseph Cardinal Tremblay, who was one of the main candidates vying to become the next Pope. During a recent interview with ComingSoon, when asked about what he found most interesting about the film, Lithgow shared that he was fascinated about the duality of the story, as well as with each main character’s story.

“The fascinating duality between a sacred calling and very down-to-earth worldly ambitions, emotions like envy and jealousy, and greed and ambition,” the acclaimed actor said. “It’s just marvelous, the tension in every single one of the characters on the great wide spectrum between faith and ambition. You know, all of us fall somewhere along that spectrum, and a lot of us characters keep those feelings deeply hidden or disguised. So, every single character has his own story to tell, and the story, just everything fits together into this wonderful kind of suspense thriller plot, which has this astonishing surprise ending.”

He continued, “The ending to my story happens away about three-quarters of the way through the film. But to me, what’s fascinating for my character is, well, spoiler alert, he endures a great traumatic downfall, but he has to stick around because it’s a conclave. It’s sequestration. It’s like he has to stay in prison. He can’t just walk away in humiliation. He has to sit there among the College of Cardinals in humiliation. I thought that was an amazing story to tell in one character’s journey. One out of several. The terrible fall from great confidence, self-assurance, if not arrogance, and dreadful humiliation. That was my story. But there are about eight or nine concurrent stories that get told, all of them performed by these wonderful international actors.”

Conclave was directed by All Quiet on the Western Front’s Edward Berger from a screenplay written by Peter Straughan, based on Robert Harris’ best-selling novel. The film also stars Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Carlos Diehz, Lucian Msamati, Brían F. O’Byrne, Merab Ninidze, Sergio Castellitto, and Isabella Rossellini. Oscar winner Christopher Nolan has shared his reaction to Denis Villeneuve’s most recent movie Dune: Part Two, praising the sequel for its unique visuals and immersiveness. During its theatrical run, the Timothée Chalamet-led sequel earned a worldwide gross of over $710 million at the box office, making it one of the highest-grossing movies of 2024. It currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a bit higher than its predecessor.

“The film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family,” reads the synopsis. “Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

During a recent DGA panel (via Deadline), Nolan called Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two “a miraculous job of adaptation,” revealing that the epic action sequel actually reminded him of his favorite Star Wars movie.

“Taking the second half and making an incredible conclusion to the story. What a remarkable piece of work,” Nolan said. “If, to me, Dune was like Star Wars, then Dune 2 is The Empire Strikes Back, which is my favorite Star Wars film. I think it’s just a great expansion of all that was introduced in the first one.”

He continued, “What I was really struck by is the sense of immersion in that world. It’s a film that has so many unique images, so many things you’ve never seen before in this movie, time after time, and I was so struck by the detail of everything.”

Based on Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel, Dune: Part Two was directed by Denis Villeneuve from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts. Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale has shared his thoughts about the Vinyl cancellation, after nearly a decade since the period drama series had made its debut on HBO. The short-lived series was created by Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, Rich Cohen, and Terence Winter.

In Vinyl, Cannavale portrayed a jaded record executive who tries to resurrect his label and fractured private life, while discovering the next new sound of 1970s New York. The cast also included Ray Romano, Olivia Wilde, Jack Quaid, Juno Temple, Paul Ben-Victor, John Cameron Mitchell, and more.

Why Bobby Cannavale feels like he disappointed Martin Scorsese after Vinyl cancellation

After Vinyl debuted its pilot episode on February 18, 2016, HBO had actually gave the series an early Season 2 renewal. However, the network eventually reversed their decision due to the show’s low viewership ratings. Despite this, it still managed to receive positive reviews from critics during its 10-episode run.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Cannavale admitted the Vinyl’s cancellation led him to feel that he disappointed Scorsese, due to how long they’ve worked together to prepare for the project. Even though Scorsese assured him that it wasn’t his fault, the cancellation really affected his self-confidence as an actor.

“I felt like I was on a creative journey with Marty that lasted years. There was a window there between Boardwalk Empire—he was so impressed with that character that I played and with my work on the show, that he took a big interest in me,” Cannavale said. “So it was years of prepping that show and talking so much about it. I felt like the bubble we created resulted in something that was really unique and special, and a different way of storytelling, certainly for television, than I’d ever seen. To just be brushed aside felt really disappointing. Marty was so kind and so generous to me by offering me something after: The Irishman. But yeah, it’s always felt to me like a little smudge on his career. I know how much that meant to him. I can’t help but feel like, Fuck, why couldn’t that be successful? The one thing that I did with Martin Scorsese is the one thing that wasn’t successful?”

He continued, “I always described that period as the stinky year. I had a stink on me, and I could feel it. To add insult to injury, we got picked up for the second season—they let everybody know we’ve got a second season, and then they changed their mind. It was like a double f***-you. I just kept it moving. I was like, Well, that’s the business. My depression over it settled in three months later, and then it was real. I really did go to a dark place. I just thought, Well, I’m never going to work again, because if something that Martin Scorsese and Terry Winter and Mick Jagger created didn’t work, and I was the star of the thing, then I’m going to have a stink on me forever.”

Oscar-nominated scribe Michael Mann has shared a new Heat 2 update regarding the current status of the long-in-development sequel to 1995’s Al Pacino and Robert De Niro-led crime drama.

At the moment, the project has no official cast yet, but Oscar nominees Adam Driver and Austin Butler were previously rumored to be in talks for the respective lead roles of young Neil McCauley and Vincent Hanna. Besides Butler, Pacino also previously suggested Timothée Chalamet as the perfect actor who could takeover his role in the sequel. Described as a both a prequel and sequel, it features stories that occur in both 1989 and 2002 with its cast of characters.

What did Michael Mann say about Heat 2?

During a recent interview, Mann confirmed that he’s almost finished writing the screenplay for Heat 2, which will be based on his 2022 novel of the same name. However, he admitted that the sequel is still not guaranteed to move forward since Warner Bros. Pictures hasn’t greenlit it.

“I’m finishing the screenplay, and at 2:30 this morning, it woke me up in the middle of the night,” Mann said (via Collider). “So, I’m in the middle of writing the screenplay, and I wound up driving through LA at 3 a.m., which is fantastic, there are no cars, and ended up at Canter’s Delicatessen because that’s the only thing open 24 hours.”

He added, “Nothing’s definitely going because the sky may fall. But Heat 2 is at Warner Bros. I’m writing the screenplay for them, and hopefully, we will go forward as soon as possible.”

Heat also starred Val Kilmer, Natalie Portman, Diane Venora, Tom Sizemore, Hank Azaria, Ashley Judd, Danny Trejo, and more. The 1995 film was Pacino and De Niro’s first-ever on-screen appearance together after they both starred in the acclaimed sequel The Godfather Part II in 1974.

Regal has shared the first look at its Sonic the Hedgehog 3 merch collection for the highly-anticipated release of the third installment to Paramount Pictures’ blockbuster action comedy franchise.

The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 merch collection will include: a Sonic Popcorn container; a Light-Up cup; Lenticular cups with exclusive toppers and tin; character plushes of Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, and Tails; Funko Pops; and a Fleece Blanket. The film will arrive in theaters on December 20, 2024.

Who’s featured in the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 merch?

Besides Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles, and Tails, moviegoers will also be able to purchase a Funko Pop of Cream the Rabbit from the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 merch, teasing the live-action appearance of the Sega video game character, who first debuted in 2002’s Sonic Advance game. At the moment, Sony Pictures hasn’t revealed who will be voicing the potential character.

Ben Schwartz’s titular speedster will officially be getting a brand new formidable rival in the form of Shadow the Hedgehog, who will be voiced by John Wick star Keanu Reeves. Before Reeves’ casting was confirmed, fans were previously speculating that Star Wars vet Hayden Christensen might be voicing the fan-favorite character. A Man on the Inside series creator Mike Schur opened up about the inspiration behind his newest Ted Danson-led comedy series, which is now available for streaming on Netflix. Since its debut last week, the show currently holds a near-perfect Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.

A Man on the Inside creator on recapturing the magic of The Mole Agent

During a recent interview with ComingSoon, Schur shared what it was like trying to recapture the magic of The Mole Agent, the Oscar-nominated documentary that served as the inspiration behind Netflix’s A Man on the Inside series. He revealed that it was important for the creative team to include the serious topics tackled from the documentary into the new show in order to stay faithful to the core of the source material.

“The documentary was very special, I think. Because it’s broadly comic idea, and then as it goes along, it starts to really get serious and in-depth about a lot of really serious things about aging, memory loss, death, and a lot of the practical realities of being in your seventies, eighties, and nineties,” Schur said.

“I thought, ‘Wow, the real trick here would be to make a series that gives you all of the same feelings.’ That was always our North Star; that’s how we navigated in the writer’s room. We want people to feel the same way when they watch the show that they felt when they watched the documentary. So that meant not shying away from that stuff. We’re gonna run right at it. We’re gonna do stories about memory loss and even death and tricky relationships and what it means to get older. I think it wouldn’t have been a faithful adaptation of the documentary if we hadn’t run right at all of those really serious subjects, even while trying to be funny.”
