The video features two best friends who are talking to each other about their potential plans after graduating from high school.
“Reading the original work was exciting, and I pondered how to express its frames in animation,” Takeshita said in a statement. “Our team was very dedicated to capturing the delicate emotions of Yoshiki and Hikaru, as well as the manga’s beautiful and innovative structure. We look forward to sharing it with you.”

Overlord voice actor Christopher Guerrero spoke with ComingSoon Editor-in-Chief Tyler Treese about starring in the anime’s first movie, Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom. Guerrero talked about the new character Neia, what to expect in the film, and more. Crunchyroll will release Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom in theaters on November 8 in the United States and Canada.

“Once prosperous but now on the brink of ruin, The Sacred Kingdom enjoyed years of peace after construction of an enormous wall protecting them from neighboring invasions. But, one day this comes to an end when the Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth arrives with an army of villainous demi-humans,” says the film’s synopsis.

“Fearing invasion of their own lands, the neighboring territory of the Slane Theocracy is forced to beg their enemies at the Sorcerer Kingdom for help. Heeding the call, Momonga, now known as the Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown (Christopher Guerrero), rallies the Sorcerer Kingdom and its undead army to join the fight alongside the Sacred Kingdom and the Slane Theocracy in hopes to defeat the Demon Emperor.”

Tyler Treese: This is the first proper Overlord movie. The other two were compilations of episodes. This is such an exciting arc, the Sacred Kingdom arc, and fans are really looking forward to this. So what does it mean for you to be starring in this big movie for the franchise, and telling this very epic story that’s well suited for the big screen?

Christopher Guerrero: Being my first lead in a movie? A little nerve-wracking, for sure. But thankfully I’ve been with the character for four seasons and a spin-off series. So, I had to treat it like it’s just another Overlord session, but extended. So definitely some nerves there in the beginning, but I was like, “I know this character. I know where this is going.” So it was just getting back on the horse again.

It’s crazy, you’ve been voicing this character for like eight years.

Honestly, I never thought he’d get this many seasons, but hey. Every season that was announced, I was always surprised and very thankful that I got to come back.

How has that experience been? Because the series has just kept growing in popularity, and the quality has been shockingly consistent. You’ve just gotten to really live with this character for so many years of your professional life now.

Ainz Ooal Gown was my first ever lead role in an anime. So it was like me and him both thrust into this role of responsibility that we weren’t accustomed to. But we just rolled with the punches. I made mistakes, he made mistakes. So as we kept going further through the series, I became more confident in playing this character and also Ainz taking on the confidence, even though he still gets nervous at times, he grows more accustomed to the circumstances that suddenly come outta nowhere for him, be them for the best or for the worst.

Yeah, I wanted to ask you about that evolution of Ainz over time. Because we see that in the movie where rather than just being at the will and being taken for a ride, he’s doing a lot of planning. We we’re seeing a lot of him actually thinking ahead and setting things in motions. So what have you liked most about really getting to see him develop?

Well, he’s definitely become a better role player, that’s for sure. Because he’s still not accustomed to certain things, but it’s always a blast to see like, how does he get out of this one? I’m like, “Your luck stat must be immeasurable,” because … you’ll do nothing, and it all works out for you. You just appear somewhere. It’s like, “Oh, he’s got three plans covered right now.” No, he’s just there to enjoy an event or something. Everybody thinks that he’s there to cause some unholy damage upon the land, but he’s just like, “I’m just here.” Then they come to him and grovel, “Please don’t do anything to us.” Like, “Of course not. You want to join my nation?” “Sure, why not?” “Okay.”

Overlord, as a series, it reminds me of Beetlejuice, where you’re playing the main character, but the focus isn’t always on Ainz. We see a lot of other perspectives. In this movie, we see a lot of Neia. How great is it that this series can focus on other people, but every single time you see Ainz it’s gonna be a blast? It’s an interesting usage of a main character.

I am very happy that the Overlord series and for Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom, that we have such a large, diverse cast. Because it’d be great to be with Einz all the time, but come on, we gotta see the people of this world. The world building, I love how it develops and the little snippets we get with each season, especially with this movie because we’ve never seen the Sacred Kingdom until now. We’ve only heard murmurs of it up to this point. Of course it’s called Overlord The Sacred Kingdom, but I would say this is really Neia’s movie because it’s about a young Paladin in training, trying to find her way in the world and what justice means to her versus Remedios or the queen Calca.

Calca is a very compassionate justice. Remedios is a very black and white justice, and Neia is still trying to figure out what justice means to her in this movie. So it’s very nice to get a first-person view from somebody else’s point. Because hen Ainz appears, you’re always watching it from Neia’s eyes. So all those cool action sequences, it’s just as amazing as you would, as an audience member, see it from a human’s eyes. But Einz is like, “Oh, this is just every day for me.”

I wanted to ask you about Einz and Neia, specifically just their interactions because over the course of the movie, she just becomes the biggest supporter of Ainz and it’s really cute to see. What did you like the most about those two characters interacting?

Initially, the awkwardness of it all because I know Ainz when they first meet is like, “Why is she looking like she wants to kill me?” Because she has very intense eyes that she got from her father. So it’s that kind of awkward getting to know each other. She’s a Paladin, so to them all unead are like just the worst things ever. So, her discovering like, “Wait, this undead has humanity to him.” Then as he goes on through this movie, not spoiling too much his deeds that he does in this war that is ongoing with the Holy Kingdom, with some other forces that you’ll find out in the movie, she just grows to admire him more and more and more so, and in a sense becomes almost kind of a religious admiration for him.

A movie is only as good as its villain. You’ve got quite the test in this movie as Ainz is going up against the Demon Emperor. He’s really just painted as a pure scumbag. What what did you like most about that villain for the movie?

Jaldabaoth has always been my favorite. I don’t wanna spoil too much if nobody’s watched Overlord before, but let’s just say Ainz and Jaldabaoth have a history together. So it was interesting to see his other form in this movie because every time you see him is in his humanoid form, but this time you actually see him as the big demon that he is. They do interact, but that’s not the focus of the movie too much. But their interactions are very action-packed, and the quality has just been amazing. So, I feel lucky to be able to see it so early happen in motion, and I hope everyone has a visual feast for their eyes when they see it in theaters.

Oviously the fans that have really stayed with the series the entire time are gonna get the most out of this film, but do you feel like if you’re bringing a friend and you explain the basics of what Overlord is about, do you feel like this is a decent stand-alone entry if somebody’s just kind of curious of what Overlord is?

You could come into it completely blind. Of course, with it being a long-running series, there are things that maybe you won’t catch onto immediately, or you might have to fill in the gaps through your friends, but since it’s kind of a Neia’s point of view this entire time, I think you could go into it without knowing the series beforehand. But hopefully if you do go into it blind, it inspires you to go see what’s going on, how did it get to this point? So you have four seasons to see how all this happened. So, I would say, yeah, if you have an interest and maybe dabble in it, I’d say, yeah, you could go into the movie blind.

It’s so cool that you voice Akuma in Street Fighter now. How crazy was it when you got that call?

I was ecstatic. I am a fighting game player, so I’ve been playing Street Fighter for many years. So, they say you get an audition, you send it off, and you forget it. But when it’s something that prolific, you’re like, “Am I gonna get an email? What’s gonna happen?” So when that did come in, I was like aghast. It was like maybe 2 a.m. in the morning when I got that I was about to go to bed, and then I got that and then I was like, “Well, I can’t go to bed for the rest of the night.”

So, yes, it was a dream role to be able part to be part of a series I’ve been playing for years and a character that I’m very much a fan of. To be a part of that history now is a dream come true.

Is that bizarre hearing your own voice out of the character you’re playing in the game?

It is a bit. I’m just like, “Gosh, I’m coming out of that guy. He needs some lotion.” But yes, it is always a trip hearing myself come out of that character, but I’m also very ecstatic. It’s like, “I can’t believe that’s me. Oh my goodness.”

“Shin chan starts a mysterious daily routine, traveling between two worlds: the Village in Akita and Coal Town,” says the game’s official description.

Tyler Treese: What were the biggest lessons learned from Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation that were applied here?

Akira Nagashima: One of the biggest challenges was deciding what to carry over from the previous game, which was well-received by many, and what new elements to introduce. We had decided early on in the planning process to maintain the core gameplay style established by Kaz Ayabe in the previous game, while enhancing the visuals, story, and game elements. The most important lesson we applied was to prioritize the player’s experience. We adhered to the policy of not making decisions based solely on the developers’ convenience, which can be a difficult stance to maintain during production. This mindset was greatly influenced by Ayabe-san.

For many worldwide, this will be their first introduction to Akita Prefecture. What aspects of the region can players expect to see recreated in the game?

Akita, located in the Tohoku region of Japan, is well known for its vast rice paddies, as reflected in the fact that it ranks third in Japan for rice production. We visited the region several times for location scouting, and the sight of the endless rice fields with water reflecting the sky and trees like a mirror was truly majestic, almost like an ocean. We were deeply moved by this experience, and one of our major challenges was figuring out how to visually convey that beauty in the game. If our players feel inspired to visit Akita after playing the game, then we consider our effort a success.

There’ll also be a Coal Town that players can visit and compete in trolly races. What was most rewarding about adding in this new gameplay?

Since the start of the project, we had been searching for a fun activity to replace the “Dinosaur Card Battle” from the previous game. When we decided to set the story in a “Coal Town,” the “Trolley Race” became a featured idea within the team, and the design process began without hesitation. While we were concerned that such an action-oriented element might disrupt the game, we requested the development team to design it so that even young children could enjoy it, similar to playing with a “slot car,” where only one control action is needed. Although it ended up being a bit more complex, the team managed to add depth to the gameplay without sacrificing simplicity, and that’s a testament to their hard work. Please give it a try, and prepare to get your controller sweaty!

Coal Town also features a lady inventor that allows you to create new inventions. What are some of the things we expect to create?

The “Coal Town,” as mentioned in the title, is one of the key settings and a mysterious place central to the story. Since it’s a mysterious town, I can’t reveal too much about it. I encourage you to play the game and visit “Coal Town” yourself. However, I can tell you one thing; somewhere in this town, the lady inventor you meet will surely steal Shinosuke’s heart.

Akita Prefecture is near Hiroshi’s family, so we get to see Shin-chan’s paternal grandparents. What did you like most about featuring them more?

The previous game was set in Kumamoto, which is Misae’s hometown, so to avoid any quarrels, we moved the setting this time to Hiroshi’s hometown in Akita. Not only do his parents appear, but his brother, a familiar face from the TV series, also makes an appearance. These family members are all just as unique as Shinosuke, making them essential to forming the game’s entertaining community. For Shinosuke, who has been away from his familiar town of Kasukabe (the town where Shinosuke lives) for an extended period, I’m sure their presence provided much-needed comfort.

Since the game is taking place away from Shin’s home, will we still see some familiar faces, such as his friends, or is it mainly a new cast of characters?

For many players, this game will be their first introduction to the world of Crayon Shin-chan. We’ve designed the game so that both long-time fans and newcomers alike can fully enjoy it, even without any prior knowledge. The story is not connected to any other work, so familiar characters may appear less frequently. However, I hope you’ll enjoy meeting the characters unique to this game.

The Blue Lock The Movie Crunchyroll release date has been announced for the upcoming streaming debut of the coming-of-age sports anime movie.
“‘That’s a hassle.’ That was second-year high schooler Nagi Seishiro’s favorite phrase as he lived his dull life. Until Mikage Reo, a classmate who dreamed of winning the World Cup, discovered Nagi’s hidden skill, inspiring him to play soccer and share his outstanding talent,” reads the synopsis. “One day, he receives an invitation to the mysterious BLUE LOCK Project. What awaits him there is an encounter with the finest strikers assembled from across the country. Nagi’s dream of becoming the best, alongside Reo, will take this prodigy to a world he’s never known. A prodigy can only be shaped when someone discovers him….now, striker Nagi Seishiro’s incredible talent and persona will set the soccer world ablaze.”

ComingSoon Editor-in-Chief Tyler Treese spoke to My Hero Academia: You’re Next stars Daiki Yamashita (Izuku Midoriya), Kenta Miyake (All Might/Dark Might), and Nobuhiko Okamoto (Katsuki Bakugo). The film will be released in U.S. theaters on October 11.

“Set after the conclusion of My Hero Academia Season 6 and right before the final battle between heroes and villains, My Hero Academia: You’re Next sees Deku and his friends face a new threat—a mysterious figure calling himself Dark Might and claiming to be the new Symbol of Peace,” says the synopsis for My Hero Academia: You’re Next.

Daiki, We’ve seen a lot of growth for Midoriya during the anime, and we see him use everything he’s learned to battle Dark Might in My Hero Academia: You’re Next. What have you liked most about Deku’s arc overall?

Daiki Yamashita: A lot of it has left a impression on me. For each and every scene, there is always a small feeling of growth and strength that kind of goes along with each episode. Among all those, one of the things I do wanna point out is how he picked up on his Shoot Style as one of his moves. During the film, he goes about his days with this goal in mind of wanting to be a hero like All Might.

I believe that the moment that he took on the Shoot Style was the time that he switched gears to becoming not just a hero like All Might but, in my perspective, the greatest hero, the best that he could ever be. So I feel like that was the one thing that truly left an impression on me. This is truly his originality as a hero, the Shoot Style, as he goes along this path to become like All Might, but also about how he becomes his own greatest hero. This is where it all comes down to, and just how he puts these into action is truly what kind of gets him going.

He goes about with all these different smashes that All Might has also done as well. However, the Shoot Style is again just something so unique to Deku as a hero, and it truly reflects him as this originality, just that he’s not just someone, who’s just, again, just aspiring to be like All Might, but again, a hero himself. So I wish for everyone in the audience to be on the lookout for Deku’s Shoot Style in the film.

Kenta, you get to flip the All Might character and play a villain called Dark Might in this. What characteristics did you lean into in playing this version?

Kenta Miyake: All Might and Dark Might, the biggest difference is that All Might is for peace and for the people. Whereas Dark Might, he pretty much has power for himself and only for himself. So I was really focused when it comes to Dark Might of really focusing on the megalomania. You know, “I am, you know, “I love me. I’m the best. Me, me, me, me, me.” So that was the kind of psyche of Dark Might that I focused on.

Because of Dark Might’s psyche, he always has been looking up to All Might’s powers. It’s a power that he has wanted and admired at the same time, but that has come out as a very twisted homage and respect to All Might. So that was what I was also focused on, this twisted respect. Last but not least, I was always enjoying all the bad things I was doing [laughs].

Nobuhiko, Bakugo has always been a fan-favorite character. What did you like most about how he was used in My Hero Academia: You’re Next?

Nobuhiko Okamoto: There’s two things about Bakugo here. First was that he actually tells his classmates what to do. So he’s starting to show some leadership roles and responsibilities. So that was an interesting point.

The other interesting thing was coming into this project, I was wondering what would Bakugo say to Giulio, the original character that is in You’re Next, and I was really satisfied when Bakugo just said like, “Oh, okay.
Daiki, Dark Might presents a very personal enemy for Deku. What did you like most about this new enemy that you got to go up against?

Yamashita: Oh, I’ve never been so pissed off before [laughs]. It was just a constant refutation of this character who looks like All Might and has a similar voice as All Might but just saying all the wrong things. So I just wanted him to stop talking.

Miyake: Oh my God.

[Everyone laughs]

Yamashita: But in terms of something I like, this might not be necessarily of Dark Might as a character, but more of a respect for Kenta Miyake and just how, despite being the same voice as All Might, it truly onscreen sounds like a completely different character. I just have this new, like profound respect for Miyake-san just based off of like how he performed as Dark Might I truly think this theatrical release just shines his skills as a voice actor. Me perosnally, I truly, truly love him performing as All Might.

Kenta, Dark Might is accompanied by Anna and Giulio. What did you like most about getting to play off those characters and that dynamic in My Hero Academia: You’re Next?

Miyake: First of all, as All Might I see Dark Might as like — I’m not sure how it will translate — but it’s like, “Damn you!”

With Anna and Giulio, I felt a beautiful fragility from the two of them, which I think definitely plays out in the movie. I also felt that Anna and Guilio’s relationship was kind of the hardboiled genre side. I think considering the world of My Hero Academia, it was refreshing to see the Annie and Giulio. We haven’t seen characters of that type and of that relationship. So it was pretty refreshing.

Nobuhiko, as always with My Hero Academia, there are some great fight scenes in You’re Next. I wanted to ask about doing all of the grunts and action noises. Are those always recorded fresh?

Yeah, all our recordings are fresh recordings every time. That’s just because we need to make sure that according to where we are in the storyline, we are all in the correct places emotionally with the storyline. It’s not as easy as just dropping in something from a different episode because there’s the nuances and there’s the context that needs to be respected. It’s always fresh recording.

For example, Bakugo always says like, “Die!” I’m not quite sure how it’s translated in the subtitles, but you have your key Bakugo words. But because how it’s said is affected by the moment before, it’s always gonna be a fresh. At least in Japan, it’s always gonna be original recording and nothing’s ever reused. So even when Bakugo says, “die” from episode to episode, you can listen to all the versions of “die” across the entire entire series, and you can definitely hear differences.

The Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi serires of 3D fighting games, which has always been known as Sparking! in Japan, is finally back after a 14-year hiatus. Developer Spike Chunsoft returns for a modern update that keeps the series true to its past. Featuring a truly staggering amount of characters and content, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is a Dragon Ball fan’s dream and a wonderful celebration of the world that Akira Toriyama created.

From a gameplay perspective, the game will be familiar to fans of past titles in the series. Building up ki is necessary for special attacks, while you can still enter a more powerful time-limited “Sparking” mode by filling up your gauge, and you’ll have to master the teleport dodge to find success in battle. The biggest difference is in the presentation as the action is gogeous to watch unfold, especially on an OLED television, as special attacks really wow with how energy beams take up the entire screen. I was regularly wowed by the sheer spectacle of gameplay, and it’s easily the best-looking 3D Dragon Ball fighting game.

With the core combat being polished and a lot of fun to engage with, it makes the fact that Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has a massive amount of content even more appealing. There are over 180 characters to choose from, although each character’s individual form can be selected as a character (Super Saiyan 2 Goku, Super Saiyan 3 Goku, etc.), with plenty of deep cuts from the movies and Dragon Ball Super as well. There are also plenty of customization options, such as different skins, to unlock, so you really can have a lot of fun with your favorite characters.

The main single-player mode is called Episodes, which has you going on a character’s full journey (well, Z-onward as the original Dragon Ball is sadly underrepresented) through a series of cutscenes and fights. There are eight different characters, some more obvious and a few really unique choices, that can be used to relive 21 different sagas. It’s a great mode, and there are a lot of small touches, like being able to experience the cutscenes in first-person view (it really adds to Goku’s sacrifice when you watch Piccolo use Special Beam Cannon from that perspective).

There are also a number of challenges and missions to complete as you play in various modes, allowing you to collect different dragon balls (Shenron will give you goodies for summoning him, such as new characters or money you can use in the shop). These range from rewards for long-term play, such as winning 200 battles or using each character a number of times. As a result, even when you’re just grinding online or playing random matches, you always feel like you’re making progress towards something. It’s a really smart addition that rewards players for engaging with the game as they please and will get you to use more of the roster rather than just gravitating solely to your favorites.

It’s also worth noting that there are a number of tournament modes that lovingly recreate the rule sets of competitions within the series. The Tournament of Power from Dragon Ball Super has you assembling a team and going up against others, while the World Tournament allows for ring-outs, so you’ll have to be careful while fighting. A few others are also included, and you can even create your own tournament with whatever rule set you desire, so feel free to get creative.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero Review: Final Verdict

Developer Spike Chunsoft hasn’t missed a beat and has delivered the best game yet in the Sparking! series. Filled with a ton of characters, deep-cut references, and a fulfilling single-player mode, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is a content-rich game that is backed up by fun combat. This is the 3D fighting game that Dragon Ball fans have been waiting for.

SCORE: 9/10

As ComingSoon’s review policy explains, a score of 9 equates to “Excellent.” Entertainment that reaches this level is at the top of its type. The gold standard that every creator aims to reach.

In each place, they encounter overwhelming paranormal activity that transcends comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to challenge the paranormal forces! Their fateful love begins as well!?”

Based on the manga series by Yukinobu Tatsu, the Dan Da Dan is described as an electrifying, action-packed love letter to sci-fi and horror with the heart of a ruthlessly funny teen rom-com. The voice cast includes Shion Wakayama (Lycoris Recoil), Natsuki Hanae (Demon Slayer), Mayumi Tanaka (One Piece), and Kazuya Nakai (One Piece). It will feature original music from Chainsaw Man’s Kensuke Ushio, with Fuga Yamashiro directing the anime.
