Oscar-nominated filmmaker Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Challengers) opened up about the next two projects that he’s currently developing. This comes ahead of the impending theatrical release of the romance drama Queer, which will be led by Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey.

What did Luca Guadagnino say about the Buddenbrooks & Bernardo Bertolucci movies?

Guadagnino shared a new production update about the current status of his upcoming Bernardo Bertolucci documentary, which he described as a “very personal movie” for him. Bertolucci is a legendary Italian filmmaker best known for his work on films such as 1970’s The Conformist and 1987’s The Last Emperor. He was also the first Italian director to win an Oscar Award for Best Director. Bertolucci died on November 16, 2018, at the age of 77 due to lung cancer.

“I’m editing it now,” Guadagnino said (via IndieWire). “I have a few more conversations I want to have. Actually, Marty Scorsese, I want to talk to him about it. We’ve been shooting for a while now. They’re not interviews; it’s a conversation. It’s a very personal movie. I am the protagonist of the movie. It could be called, ‘Bertolucci and I,’ which it’s not going to be.”

In addition, Guadagnino has also revealed his plans to adapt Thomas Mann’s 1901 novel Buddenbrooks, which was one of the two books that made an impact on his life growing up. The novel centers around the story of a North German merchant family told through the course of four generations.

“There are two books that I grew up with, one I read before [Queer], which is ‘Buddenbrooks’ by Thomas Mann,” Guadagnino shared. “I think they are kind of mirroring each other, or they are the flip coin of each other. One [Queer] is about the longing of the past and the unavoidability when you meet someone that is really pulling you in, and you want to see yourself reflected in the gaze of the other. And the other one [Buddenbrooks] is about the decadence of a Western society rooted in the most brutal form of repression, internal before being external. To understand the obscenity of repression being acted out upon people, I think you have to see and look into the repression that the people who are exerting repression over other people have within themselves, not to justify them, but to go to the root of this heart of darkness.”

The Mr. McMahon Trailer offers a preview of Netflix‘s six-part Vince McMahon docuseries, delving into the scandals and controversies associated with the former WWE figurehead ahead of WWE Raw’s move to Netflix in January.

According to the official synopsis provided by Netflix, the docuseries will look at the rise and fall of Vince McMahon. It will look at the transformation of the WWE co-founder and how he turned the company into a global powerhouse. But the docuseries will look at the damning allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking that led to McMahon’s recent resignation from the company he became synonymous with. It includes interviews with McMahon from prior to his resignation in addition to interviews with family members, business partners, wrestling icons, and the journalists who helped uncover the McMahon allegations.

Mr. McMahon premieres globally on Netflix on September 25.

The trailer begins with McMahon declaring that no one really knows him. From there, the two-minute trailer previews WWE’s rise to a global empire. It then detours to discuss Vince’s involvement in the steroid scandal and the deaths of wrestlers at a relatively young age. It also discusses the disturbing sexual assault allegations that led Vince to step away from WWE. Finally, the trailer ends with McMahon discussing how the lines between reality and fiction are blurred in wrestling. The trailer ends with the WWE co-founder saying: “My name is not Vince. My name is Mr. McMahon.”

During the trailer, several WWE superstars and legends are interviewed. They include The Rock, Hulk Hogan, and Paul “Triple H” Levesque. The latter is WWE’s current COO and married to Vince’s daughter Stephanie McMahon.

The docuseries has long been in the works. It hails from filmmaker Chris Smith, who executive produced Tiger King, and The Ringer’s founder and CEO Bill Simmons. It comes as WWE Raw will be moving to Netflix in January. Outside the U.S., WWE content will be available on Netflix starting in the new year. It also comes as McMahon and WWE are under investigation by the DOJ.

NEON has released the official 2073 trailer for the upcoming genre-bending documentary movie, which hails from British filmmaker Asif Kapadia. In late 1984, 12-year-old Jonelle Matthews disappeared from her residence in Greeley, Colorado. Reports indicate that after the girl’s parents called authorities, investigators searched the Matthews house and looked for clues. For almost three decades, the case remained cold because the police couldn’t find any DNA evidence. However, in 2019, police found Jonelle’s remains in Greeley, and a year later, they arrested Steve Pankey and charged him in the case. The Oxygen true crime documentary The Girl on the Milk Carton explores the case in great depth.

CBS News reported that Jonelle Matthews went missing from her home on December 20, 1984. Meanwhile, The Colorado Sun noted that Jonelle’s father, Jim, became suspicious when his older daughter did not know about Jonelle’s whereabouts. The father grew concerned because his children never went out without telling the parents.

He told the outlet, “After being home for about a half an hour, I just had a really strange feeling because our girls were very good about letting us know if they were gonna change their plans, leaving a note or calling.” As a result, the parents called the police to investigate the matter. However, investigators couldn’t do much and just found strange shoeprints in the snow outside their house.

According to CBS News, police felt someone tried to erase the shoeprints with a garden rake. They continued the investigation but failed to find any clue. Although the case remained cold for over thirty years, in 2019, they found Jonelle Matthew’s remains in Greeley. The discovery of her remains prompted the authorities to find the culprit again. After further investigation, police indicted Steve Pankey for the disappearance and killing of Jonelle Matthews. Even though police had no DNA evidence against him, prosecutors used his statements to prove that he might be involved in the case.

Who killed Jonelle Matthews & how was the killer caught?

As mentioned earlier, police apprehended Steve Pankey for the murder of Jonelle Matthews. Pankey and his family lived in Greeley, Colorado, at the time of the disappearance. However, they soon moved to Idaho, where Pankey started investing his time in politics. While living in Idaho, he had a close encounter with police after he caused a scene in a bank. Citing the court documents, CBS News reported that Pankey did that to meet police officers and become an “informant” in Jonelle Matthew’s case. The filing stated that Pankey wanted to come forward with the location of Matthew’s body, but he was scared that he might get a “death sentence.”

In September 2019, police issued a warrant and searched Steve Pankey’s house. The outlet mentioned that they took his laptop and cell phone. Then, in October 2020, a grand jury indicted him for the abduction and murder of Jonelle Matthews. In his indictment, the jury mentioned how Pankey used information such as the culprit using a garden rake to erase the shoeprints in the snow. This information was never made public and raised suspicions about Pankey. During the trial, Pankey’s ex-wife also testified and told the court about his controlling behavior. Oxygen’s latest true crime series, The Girl on the Milk Carton, explores the mysterious vanishing of a 12-year-old girl in late 1984. Reports indicate that a girl named Jonelle Matthews disappeared from her Colorado home on December 20, 1984. Although authorities searched the entire house, they couldn’t find any strong evidence. More than three decades later, in 2019, they discovered her remains in a desolate field in Greeley, Colorado. A year later, police arrested and charged a man named Steve Pankey for the murder of Jonelle Matthews.

According to CBS News, police searched the Matthews house but couldn’t find any strong evidence. The only piece of evidence they found were shoeprints in the snow. Additionally, the publication mentioned that someone tried erasing the shoeprints with a garden rake. For years, investigators tried to solve the mystery. The case eventually became a nationwide phenomenon and prompted people to ask questions about their safety. In 2019, when police found Jonelle Matthews’ body, they noted that the culprit shot the victim in the head.

The investigation continued, and Steve Pankey became a suspect for his repeated attempts to involve himself in the investigation. She also found a legal paper with Pankey’s handwriting on it, which said that the snow was raked outside the Matthews household. However, the defense argued that their client was not responsible for the death of Jonelle Matthews.

Afterward, Pankey testified in his case and claimed that he was innocent. However, he admitted that he lied about several things he knew about the case. He said, “The truth is that I made a lot of stuff up out of bitterness. It was just me trying to be a big man, be in the case, OK? I had no knowledge.”

After hearing several testimonies and arguments, the jury went into deliberations. However, they couldn’t reach a verdict on the charges of kidnapping and murder. Correspondingly, the judge declared it a mistrial.

Scott Peterson is giving his first interview in Peacock’s Face to Face with Scott Peterson documentary. He has been serving life in prison for more than two decades now for the murders of his pregnant wife, Laci Peterson, and their unborn son, Conner. People Magazine reported that in the upcoming three-part documentary series, the convicted murderer continues to maintain his innocence. The docuseries premieres on August 20, 2024.

In an exclusive, the outlet stated that Face to Face with Scott Peterson documentary director Shareen Anderson talked about her conversations with the inmate. Anderson claimed Scott, now serving his sentence in California’s Mule Creek State Prison, is “optimistic and confident” that ongoing efforts to free him will be successful. Earlier this year, the Los Angeles Innocence Project began investigating his “claims of actual innocence.” The organization believes that DNA evidence can prove Scott’s innocence.

The interview between Scott Peterson and Shareen Anderson happened via video sessions. In the video call, Scott assured, “I didn’t kill my family,” alleging that the “so-called investigation” relied on circumstantial evidence. He also alleged that prosecutors and investigators ignored other potential leads that could have led them to Laci Peterson and their unborn son’s real killer(s).

Reportedly, Scott Peterson calls his affair with Amber Frey, which began a month before the murders of Laci Peterson and their unborn son Conner, “horrible.” He said, “It’s horrible. I was a total a-hole to be having sex outside our marriage.” At the time, Frey was a massage therapist from Fresno, California. She later told authorities that Scott never told her about Laci and claimed he was a widower.

Scott Peterson believes the investigation authorities and prosecutors conducted completely relied on circumstantial evidence. Now, he is speaking out in Peacock’s Face to Face with Scott Peterson to find justice and appeal to people to hear his side of the story. The inmate alleges the investigation fixated on him as detectives ignored other potential leads.

During the interview for the Face to Face documentary, Scott Peterson also mentioned, “I regret not testifying [at my trial].” Scott said, “But if I have a chance to show people what the truth is, and if they are willing to accept it.” He further added, “It would be the biggest thing that I can accomplish right now—because I didn’t kill my family.”

Scott Peterson claimed he went fishing on Christmas Eve in 2002 when Laci Peterson went missing. Investigators focused on Scott after learning about his affair with Amber Frey. Then, the following April, Laci and their unborn son Conner’s bodies washed up on the shores of San Francisco Bay. Within days, authorities arrested Scott in La Jolla, California, and found that he had bleached his hair and had $15,000 in cash. Prosecutors later argued he was trying to flee, but Scott claims he was “never running from the police.”

Now, Scott Peterson, who gave the Face to Face interview from Mule Creek State Prison, believes he may get an early release. The Los Angeles Innocence Project is investigating his claims of innocence in an attempt to help find justice. Previously, a judge granted new DNA testing on a piece of duct tape from the case.
